Mr. Tanous, an attorney licensed in New York and Pennsylvania, focuses his practice on corporate and business legal matters, including corporate governance issues. From 1973 through March 2007 he was an attorney, partner and chairman at Jaeckle Fleischmann & Mugel, LLP, a national law firm headquartered in Buffalo, New York where he represented numerous public and private companies. From April 2007 through June 2013 he served as Executive Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel of Erie Indemnity Company, a publicly traded Fortune 500 company that manages the property and casualty and life insurance companies that comprise the Erie Insurance Group. While with Erie Indemnity Company he served on the Board of Directors of all of its subsidiaries and was Chairman of the Pennsylvania Insurance Association. From January 1, 2014 through December 31, 2022, he served as the Executive Director of the Prentice Family Foundation, a not-for-profit private foundation whose mission is to promote the economic development of the Western New York area. Mr. Tanous’ management of a large law firm and private foundation and his senior level responsibilities at a major publicly traded financial services company, coupled with his extensive legal expertise and decades of experience as a counselor to public and private companies, enable him to provide the Company’s Board of Directors both a business and legal perspective on Board matters.
